Oceans cover more than two thirds of our earth!  In Science, we have been learning about the five layers or depths which make up our oceans.  Each layer has different characteristics, such as the temperature and the amount of light.  As a result of the varying conditions, each layer is inhabited by different plants and creatures.  In the top layer, known as the Sunlight Zone, there is plenty of sunlight and heat, so many things thrive here, from dolphins to fish to seaweed to coral.  However, in the bottom layer, known as The Trenches, there is no natural light and the temperatures are near-freezing, making it harder for living things to thrive.  Some parts of The Trenches have never been explored . . . yet!

In Art and Design, we worked collaboratively to turn a shoe box into one of the layers that we had researched.  We used collage and sketching techniques to represent one of the zones, before stacking the boxes together to produce our very own 'Blue Abyss'.
