Year 4 - Visit to Hindu Mandir
Year 4 enjoyed a visit to one of our local Hindu Temples. We were warmly welcomed and given the chance to watch a Hindu religious ritual called aarti, performed at the main shrine by one of the priests. The shrine was beautiful. The speaker explained that it was made of hand carved wood from India, covered in gold. We saw worshippers visiting the shrine and walking round it, always keeping it on their right hand side. At 11am, we noticed that the curtains were drawn around the shrine as the priest offered food to the murti (statues of gods and goddesses). One child commented, "It feels really calm in here, doesn't it?"
