At Freeman’s Endowed CE Junior Academy, it is our intention to build a curriculum that enables children to develop knowledge, skills and vocabulary in a broad range of sporting activities, as well as developing values and transferable life skills such as fairness and respect.

Our PE curriculum is based on an enhanced model of progression from Years 3-6 and this has been devised by our PE subject leader. This progression has been planned in order to build on the skills needed to meet the end of KS objectives in the National Curriculum. Our long term plan is broad and balanced, allowing children to access a wide variety of high-quality PE and sports provision. The long term plan begins by focussing on the fundamental skills (ABC) and then moving onto skills and activities that can lead to different sports. Further up the school, we start making the links between sports and finally in years 5 and 6, it becomes more sport specific as we get them ready for secondary school. Children are given plenty of opportunities to build upon prior knowledge, allowing children to know more, and remember more. Children are given plenty of opportunities to take part in competitive sports throughout the year. We use PE Passport as our PE scheme in order to develop our teacher’s CPD. Teachers are encouraged to use this, alongside their professional judgement when planning their lessons. Provision is enhanced through the use of the Sports Premium Funding and are covered by the 5 key performance indicators.

At Freeman’s Endowed CE Junior Academy, we want our music lessons to be fun, inspiring and engage our children through songs, lyrics and movement. We want the children to feel able and expressive, developing their own appreciation of music with the opportunities we provide as a school. All children are actively encouraged and given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, from standard classroom instruments to individual instrumental lessons with the visiting peripatetic staff.

Our aim at Freeman’s is to enable pupils to become creative and reflective learners who are able to express themselves fluently and confidently in a variety of different ways. Within the curriculum, Art will clearly contribute towards this, enabling pupils to respond thoughtfully to different learning and stimuli. Our artists should be able to develop their cultural understanding in a range of contexts, Art being one of them. We also want our pupils to understand that the perseverance and attentiveness needed to complete an Art and Design project leads to personal pride and gratification. We aim to facilitate opportunities for our pupils to produce high quality outcomes by dedicating time, providing quality resources and facilitating learning opportunities which lead to a final piece of week of a high standard. Artwork  is displayed across the school to celebrate and  inspire others.
